about
XTYP lab is a virtual repository of spoken data from various underresourced languages. The corpora has been created with a parallel design, containing short narratives that were elicited with the same instructions across speakers. This data is appropriate for the study of variation between speakers, in particular with relation to frequent phenomena in discourse, such as word order, prosodic structure in narratives. Since its focus is on comparability between speakers, it lacks representativity in other respects, i.e., grammatical structures appearing in other discourse contexts are not represented at all.
The present resource was created with the contribution of different people at the General Linguistics of the Bielefeld University (2010-2017) and University of Göttingen (2017-2025), also within research projects funded by the DAAD, DFG, Volkswagen Foundation.
